Agnes Tschetschulin (1859–1942) was a Finnish composer and violinist who toured internationally and broke new ground as a woman in classical music. Born in Helsinki into a cultured family—her mother hosted musical salons—she was among the first graduates of the Helsinki Music Institute (now the Sibelius Academy). With a government grant, she continued her studies in Berlin, training under renowned teachers including Woldemar Bargiel and Joseph Joachim.

Tschetschulin toured widely as second violinist in the world’s first all-female professional string quartet, led by Marie Soldat and managed by the Herman Wolff Agency. In 1892, she began teaching at Cheltenham Ladies’ College in England and later settled in London as a freelance musician. After returning briefly to Finland during World War I, she moved to Stockholm, where she lived until her death. She is buried alongside her longtime companion, pianist Tora Hwass.
